so I sent off all my holiday cards yesterday. As always there were close to 100. This is the last year I send off so many, even though I said the same thing last year. I'm going to keep a better record of who I get cards from and only they will get them next year. I send off cards year after year to people who never send me shit. I send them because I want to stay in touch with these people (usually distant relatives), but I am sick of the one way street. The postage is outrageous for my unemployed ass to pay, and am sickened more and more each year about the amount of waste this damn holiday season produces. 100 cards alone produces so much trash. I bought recycled cards this year, but they still come in boxes, and envelopes, and then everyone throws them out after a few weeks anyway. I am so sick of trash! I really had wanted to make this a 100% green Christmas, but with a newborn it's impossible. I love buying her used toys, making her toys and stuff, but I do get a little scared about some safety issues (i have already unknowingly bought recalled used toys etc), and honestly, I suck and just think it's easier sometimes to go to the store to pick things out. i will say I am not buying her anything plastic this year, which is harder than people think. Besides wood and fabric looking better and it being healthier for both Lucy and the environment, it usually comes with less packaging, which again gets ridiculous, produces a plethora of unneeded waste, and is just plain annoying to take apart to get the item inside. I heard
Amazon was having an option at checkouts to get items with
little or no packaging, but now I do not see that option (and I guess it was only for 19 items anyway?!). Why does an instrument set come inside 50 cubic feet of hard plastic fused together like a vault that ruins my scissors, and then as each centimeter of the toy tied down with plastic ties, or wires? Why can't more companies be like
Melissa and Doug?
I'd love to go off more but I have to go to a play date and then to Target to buy more trash for people. UGH!
